How we value

Real sales, not guesses.

Every piece gets two numbers: what it is worth today, and an estimate of its environmental score. Here is how each one is built.

The value range

What it's worth, today.

Sage compares the piece with recent sales of the same or similar pieces, then adjusts for its condition. You see a range, not a single price, because a fair price is a range. Most pieces sell near the middle of it.

  • The pieceBrand, style, size and fibre, read from three photos.
  • Its conditionFrom new with tags to well worn, as the photos show it.
  • Real salesWhat comparable pieces have actually sold for recently.

The owner always sets the final price. Sage only suggests it.

The environmental score

Value and impact, side by side.

Next to its value, every piece gets a score out of 100. It adds four things, each out of 25. It is an estimate, not a certification, and it changes when the condition changes.

Estimate

Good second life

  • Fibre21/25What it is made of, and how long that fibre lasts.
  • Condition19/25What Sage read from your photos.
  • Wear left19/25How much use the piece likely still has in it.
  • Vs new18/25The impact avoided by wearing it again instead of buying new.

Built from published averages for each fibre. No certifying body rates it.
